This course introduces students to the development and methods of point-for-point or note-for-note composing, also known as counterpoint. Students focus largely on the norms and practices of sixteenth-century styles found in vocal genres including Masses, motets, and madrigals of the Renaissance. Students will share their assignments with each other and the professor in a workshop setting.
